You Won’t Believe How This Caretaker Treated Her Client!

Elder Abuse New York

An elderly Queens woman suffering from dementia was tied up with bedsheets by her caregiver, and it was all captured on hidden camera. According to reports, the victim’s daughter – who hired the caregiver – installed a hidden camera to keep tabs on the care her mother was receiving.

Video clearly showed the caregiver wrapping the victim in the bedsheets – essentially wrapping her like a mummy.

Thankfully, the daughter saved the footage and reported the incident to authorities. The caregiver, however, has seemingly vanished but law enforcement are looking for her.

Elder Abuse in New York

The New York Office of Victim Services has confirmed that there have been over 7,000 claims of elder abuse in the past three years. That’s definitely a high number, and the actual number is most likely much higher since – according to the National Center on Elder Abuse – only one in 14 cases of elder abuse are actually reported.

Recognizing Elder Abuse

In an earlier blog entry, we wrote of the warning signs of elder abuse and how to recognize them. These can include:
